In 319, shortly after Antipater’s death, Cassander took hold of Athens and fought to get Macedonia under his rule. Finally, in 315 Cassander invaded Macedonia and captured the royal family. Doing so he found and executed Olympias. Cassander quickly gained trust from the Macedonians Pydna was one more of the city-states that got taken over by Cassander. It was there that he saw Thessalonike, one of Alexander the Greats sisters. To gain power, he offered to marry her. She didn’t refuse. He fought more battles on and off of Greece land and kept his strong hold over Greece until he died in 297.
